Newly Admitted Students

Welcome to Graduate Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts

Congratulations on your recent admission!

This webpage is designed to help you prepare for your first semester. In addition to reading the information below, please be sure to visit the university's page for Newly Admitted Students.

One of your first steps is to confirm your enrollment decision. You take this action via your decision letter in the application portal. The Office of Graduate Admissions will send you a response that contains further instructions within 24-48 hours.

CVPA New Graduate Student Orientation

CVPA's Graduate Orientation is an opportunity for all incoming graduate students to meet the Dean and Associate Dean, learn about the college's policies, and meet other new graduate students. Attendance is mandatory and part of the CVPA 600 course.

Orientation will take place one (1) week prior to the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Specific date and time information will be sent to you via e-mail.

If you have any questions, please contact Asma Omarzad (703-993-9773).

Your program may require a second orientation. Please contact your department directly for more information.

Gradstravaganza!

Meet new and current graduate students from across campus and learn more about Grad Life at Mason by attending this free event! This annual event allows students to take advantage of workshops and make connections with important offices around campus. Bring the little ones, because families are welcome to attend, too.

Check back in the Fall for more details.

Also be sure to check out the Graduate Student Life website to learn more about job opportunities, housing opportunities, and use the New Grad Student Checklist to help you prepare for your first semester at Mason.

CVPA 600

All incoming graduate students are required to enroll in CVPA 600 during one of their first two semesters in the program. This course is designed as an opportunity to network with other graduate students in the college and learn more about professional development in the arts. Each semester varies by number of sessions and activities. A syllabus will be provided at the beginning of each term to those who register with dates and information about each session.

Advising and Registration

All Graduate Students are assigned an advisor at the time of admission. Please refer to your decision letter for your specific advisor’s name and e-mail address. Be sure to contact your advisor and schedule a meeting to discuss course planning prior to registering for the fall, spring or summer semester.
