College Qualifications
George Mason University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees.
Contact the Commission on Colleges at 1866 Southern Lane, Decatur, GA 30033-4097 or call 404-679-4500 for questions about Mason's accreditation.
Every 10 years, the university engages in the process of reaffirmation of accreditation. This activity takes three years, and involves faculty, staff, and students from across the institution. The process consists of two major components: the compliance certification, a comprehensive review of the university’s administration, faculty, and programs; and a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), which seeks to develop and enhance the university’s offerings in some particular way. Mason most recently chose to focus on expanding undergraduate involvement in research in its Students as Scholars initiative.
The university’s accreditation was most recently reaffirmed in December 2011, and extends until 2021. However, the university did undergo a more focused mid-point review in 2016.

Mason Assessment System: Tk20
It is used by academic and administrative units to enter their annual assessment data. Information about this year’s requirements for annual assessment planning and reporting can be found on the Annual Assessment page.
Nuventive has been selected to replace Tk20 as Mason’s assessment planning and reporting software tool. (Updates will be provided throughout spring and summer 2023, including training and workshop schedules.)
Users of the previous system, MATS, already have access to Tk20. If you are a new user or are having trouble logging in, please contact Karen Manley at kmanley@gmu.edu or 703-993-8834.
