Mason Arts Student Advisory Council

The mission of the Student Advisory Council is to engage informed student perspectives, cultivate open dialogue between students and college leadership, assist the college in adapting to emerging challenges and opportunities, and to help shape overall college climate by amplifying student voices.


Purpose and Objectives 

  • Engage student perspective – Provide informed perspective on the student experience and promote interdisciplinary engagement among and between student majors in the college
  • Promote Inclusion and Belonging – Provide recommendations that promote student success
  • Enhance dialogue – Promote bidirectional communication between students and college leadership 
  • Leadership Development – Offers actively participating students the opportunity for personal and professional growth 

Members will be selected through an open application process. In the application form, applicants will be asked to submit the name of one recommendation from a faculty or staff member and one student peer recommendation.

Council to convene Fall 2026

Council members must: 

  • Be a currently declared major in a program within the College of Visual and Performing Arts: 
    • School of Art
    • School of Dance
    • Reva and Sid Dewberry Family School of Music
    • School of Theater
    • Film and Video Studies
    • Computer Game Design
    • Arts Management 
  • Have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours at Mason
  • Have a minimum cumulative of GPA 2.5 
  • Be committed to the mission and purpose of the council, Mason Arts, and George Mason University 
  • Be available for and committed to attending and participating in all scheduled council meetings 

Council members will:

  • Meet a minimum of two times per semester
  • Serve a one-year term, renewable for one consecutive term
