The LIVE Center (The Center for Live Interactive Virtual Education) is a home for innovative virtual education solutions for the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
In 2019, Dance Heritage professor Christopher d’Amboise saw a need for video conferencing that allowed for life-sized, full body interaction. From this was created the flagship initiative of the LIVE Center: the LIVE Center Window Wall™. A teacher in a remote location could be projected live and life-sized onto the wall of a studio, while a live feed of the students are projected for the teacher. Learn more about the Window Wall™.

Presented by The LIVE Center (The Center for Live Interactive Virtual Education) and George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts
In this first installment of the LIVE Center’s new Legends and Legacies series, which celebrates the leading artists of our time, guests are invited to gather inside Harris Theatre on George Mason University’s Fairfax Campus for a live virtual conversation with Tony Award-nominated performers Terrence Mann and Charlotte d'Amboise. The acclaimed husband-and-wife duo will participate in real time from the National Dance Institute in New York City—projected larger-than-life onto the screen onstage—for discussion with site host George Mason University School of Theater Professor Ed Gero. The session will conclude with a Q&A session with students.
About the Artists
Emmy Award nominee and three-time Tony Award nominee Terrence Mann has originated some of the most iconic Broadway roles in CATS, Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Les Misérables, Beauty and The Beast, and Pippin. Mann can be seen opposite Jared Harris and Lee Pace in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Foundation, a compelling futuristic epic saga based on Issac Asimov’s award-winning novel of the same name. He was seen in the hit Netflix series Sense8 and in all four Critters movies. He is currently performing the role of the friar in Diane Paulus’s acclaimed production of Romeo and Juliet.
Since making her Broadway debut in Cats, Charlotte d’Amboise has been nominated for two Tony Awards for her performances in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line and Jerome Robbins's Broadway. She has also won numerous Fred Astaire Awards for her roles in Pippin, Sweet Charity, and Damn Yankees. Charlotte has also appeared in the Broadway casts of Company, Contact, Carrie, and Song and Dance. Her film credits include co-starring in Frances Ha, directed by Noah Baumbach, and appearances in The In Crowd; American Blue Note; Just Off the Coast; The Preacher's Wife; and Every Little Step, a documentary about the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line.
Mentoring Series
The LIVE Center uses the Window Wall™ system to connect leading artists with students from multiple institutions. In a 90-minute session, the featured artist mentors students through coaching, advising, teaching, or by simply sharing their artistic stories and experiences. In addition to one-on-one instruction, the LIVE Center will invite audiences from diverse communities across the nation to view the session. Students from all backgrounds who are pursuing a life in the arts can receive unique insight, information, and guidance. Artists who have distinguished careers and who wish to pass on their knowledge and expertise can be a supportive and positive influence on the next generation of artists.
The artists livestream the events from the National Dance Institute in New York City to George Mason University School of Dance students, Baltimore School for the Arts students, and Arizona State University School of Dance students, as well as selected students from The Wooden Floor (Los Angeles) and students at COCA (St Louis).
The first artist in the series on April 25, 2022 was Justin Peck, a Tony Award-winning choreographer, director, filmmaker, and dancer and currently acting Resident Choreographer of New York City Ballet.
