Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Studies

FILM AND VIDEO STUDIES PROGRAM

Bachelor of Arts in Film and Video Studies

The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Film and Video Studies offers a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment where students build a strong foundation in film production, business and entrepreneurship, ethics, and film analysis.

All Film and Video Studies majors study film and video production, film theory and criticism, emerging technologies in film, ethics, screenwriting, and business practices in the film industry. As they work toward their culminating projects, students explore their own interests, and can choose optional pathways in Cinematography, Directing, Editing, Producing, Screenwriting, or Sound.

Award-Winning Professors

Our proximity to the nation's capital means we are able to attract the best artist-teachers in the Film industry who often work and perform in the D.C. Metro and Richmond areas and understand the field. Named by Variety magazine as "one of the top 10 directors to watch," Professor Nikyatu Jusu also won the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Prize - U.S. Dramatic, for her film Nanny.
