Certificate in Graphic Design for Working Professionals
The Certificate for Graphic Design is for working adults with a 4-year baccalaureate undergraduate degree from an accredited institution who seek to gain the skills and competency to advance into a career in graphic design or gain skills to enhance their current work.
The certificate must be pursued on a part-time basis, and there may be additional prerequisite courses required. It encompasses a specific body of knowledge and practice that prepares candidates for rewarding positions in the design field. Most students complete certificate requirements in four semesters, as the certificate is a part-time program. Pre-advising is not necessary, but is recommended, as there may be a prerequisite class required if applicants do not have prior experience with graphic design software.
"I had no prior training in graphic design, simply the desire to switch careers into the field. This program provided me with a strong foundation in essential design principles, typography, color theory, branding, and digital tools, all of which are essential hard skills for the career I'm interested in....this program helped me develop a network of fellow designers and professors who are supportive and inspiring....I highly recommend this program to anyone who is new to graphic design but wants to get hands-on experience and gain essential skills for a career in the field."—Alumna, Nancy Jamison, '25
The Print Shop is conveniently located inside the Art and Design Building. Although they focus primarily on George Mason students and faculty, they also offer printing and scanning services to the greater D.C. Metro area.
