If you’ve never had an opportunity to witness the impressive student talent within George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, now is your chance. Mason’s Opera Theater & Workshop provides serious vocal performance students with in-depth study and performance of operas from Baroque to modern, with opera scenes and productions each semester. The Opera Theater presents two to three productions annually, and the Hylton Center is excited to present Mason Opera’s December production of Offenbach’s Mesdames de la Halle (12/6-7) in the intimate Gregory Family Theater. This charming comedy is set against the backdrop of the famous fruit and vegetable market, “Les Halles,” and follows the romantic interests (and rejections!) of the market’s street vendors. Performed in French and English, this delightful opera is full of the beautiful music and comedic genius of Jacques Offenbach, enchanting audiences of all ages.
Tickets are available for purchase in person at the Hylton Center Ticket Office (Tuesday–Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), by calling 703-993-7759, or online. Mason students receive one free ticket by showing their Mason ID at the box office.
