Hylton Presents offers a music-lovers dream line-up in January and February with back-to-back performances by some of the most talented classical ensembles direct from Russia and Ukraine, as well as a rousing evening of jazz by one of the D.C.-area's finest swing bands! The Siberian State Symphony Orchestra’s (1/31) dazzles with a program of powerhouse Russian composers including Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, and Mussorgsky. Be swept away by Rimsky-Korsakov’s passion-filled Overture to The Tzar’s Bride, and the orchestrated version of Mussorgsky’s piano suite Pictures at an Exhibition. The evening also includes one of the best-known violin concertos written — Tchaikovsky’s’ Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35—which has been highlighted in many film and television scores. Next, local favorite and all-star ensemble, the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra (2/8) returns to the Hylton Center with alto sax virtuoso Jim Carroll leading a high-octane concert featuring the music of jazz legends Charlie (Bird) Parker, Count Basie, and D.C.’s own Duke Ellington.
