Other noteworthy moments from the 2019-2020 season:
- The opening of the new Education and Rehearsal Wing: 17,000 additional square feet of space for rehearsals, classes, and performances, as well as two additional lobby spaces
- Family Open House with hundreds of families celebrating the new Education and Rehearsal Wing through interactive arts and crafts activities, instrument petting zoos, live music, and more
- Welcoming 14,299 students to field trip performances from eight different school districts, private, and homeschools
- The SMART Laboratory, Veterans and the Arts Initiative, and Department of Social work received a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) grant supporting a series of free 10-week arts engagement workshops designed to study how arts engagement benefits active adults 65 and older
- The launch of Monday School Matinees for young audiences
- In response to COVID-19, Mason Arts at Home launched with a highly attended livestream performance by American Roots Series artists, Bumper Jacksons. A variety of additional livestreamed and recorded offerings followed, featuring professional guest artists, talented alumni, students, and faculty of George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts.
We’re so glad our Hylton Center friends, patrons, and the greater community could be there for many of the arts experiences listed above. Know that we are eager to make new memories with you again as soon as it is safe to do so! Until then, we will continue to communicate updates about future Hylton performances and events as they become available.
