Biography

Jandos Rothstein is an educator and graphic designer specializing in rebranding and the ongoing art direction of editorial products. Clients have included The American Prospect, The Washington City Paper, Governing Magazine, The Institute for Science and International Security, The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, and others. Pro-bono clients have included Antioch College, George Mason University’s School of Art, Theatre Washington, Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, and Downtown DC BID. His work has been recognized for excellence more than 60 times by several organizations including Print Magazine, The Society of Publication Designers, The Society for News Design, The Art Director’s Club of Metropolitan Washington, and others.

As an educator, Rothstein emphasizes practical approaches to creative problem solving and the development of visual vocabulary—which to him includes not just a knowledge of design and art (and their respective histories) but also the software used to execute solutions. In his 20 years at Mason, Rothstein has taken the lead on the launch of two new graduate programs, and has served on department, college, and university committees.

Rothstein is the author of Designing Magazines (Allworth Press, 2009) and more than 100 articles on design and ranging topics for How, Print, ID, AIGA Design Journal, The Washington Post, Parenthesis, and many others. His work can be seen at: Behance and Instagram.
