Patrick Sargent

Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Patrick Sargent joined the military at age 17 to become a U.S. Air Force security policeman. In 2002, after twenty years of service, he prepared to retire from the military, and while completing his degree in political science an entry-level printmaking class changed his trajectory.  This class was intended to round out his educational experience but became the beginning of another journey. Patrick returned to George Mason using the GI Bill, where he earned a BFA in Printmaking and MFA in Critical Arts Practice. He is the current President of the Non-Profit, Printmakers Inc. at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, Co-Founder of an Arts and the Military Initiative reaching thousands annually nationwide and Sargent-Thamm Printmakers where he and fellow George Mason alum, Erwin Thamm, continue to explore collaboration through local and national community outreach programs in partnership with Capitol One, NEA’s Creative Forces, Walter Reed Military Medical Center Staff and others — striving to build cohesion and connections between artists, communities, and audiences.
