This summer Mason seniors Mirella Guzman-Escobar and Jacques Lykes are interning in the office of the House Creative Services, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) at the U.S. House of Representatives.

Mason artist in residence Abdulrahman “Abi” Naanseh studied interior design at Damascus University in Syria, but his true passion is art, specifically Arabic calligraphy.

I am so very sorry to be writing to you today with such sad news.  Our wonderful friend, tireless advocate, and generous supporter of the arts at Mason (and so many other important things), Sid Dewberry, has left us.  He passed away on Saturday, July 16, at the age of 94. 

Mason Exhibitions is honored to present Abdulrahman Naanseh: Pressure, Movement, Effect, a solo exhibition of the artist’s recent Arabic calligraphy on paper and canvas, on view June 17 through August 6, 2022. The opening reception for Pressure, Movement, Effect will kick off with the Arlington Collective Art Walk the evening of June 17, featuring self-guided art experiences open to the public that connects seven local galleries.

As a young artist in the Domingo-Cafritz Washington National Opera Program in 2007, soprano Aundi Marie Moore, BM ’03, had the chance to chat with Plácido Domingo, one of the most famous opera singers in the world. But the question she asked didn’t have anything to do with music.

The Hylton Performing Arts Center hosted a special two-day celebration with the 12th Anniversary Gala on April 29 and 30. The first Anniversary Gala held in-person since 2019, the event welcomed more than 1,000 guests and supported the Hylton Center’s mission of presenting diverse performances and programs of high quality and artistic excellence to inspire, educate, and enrich the community.

George Mason Univerity’s College of Visual and Performing Arts announces the LIVE Center Mentoring Series and launches its first masterclass taught by Justin Peck, acting Resident Choreographer of New York City Ballet, on April 25 in New York City, Fairfax, and Baltimore.

In "Undeleted," McDermott curates content found on seven discarded cell phones. The exhibit displays two kinds of found data, intact and deleted—or what people had hoped they had deleted.

D.C.-area dance enthusiasts have the opportunity to witness some of the most exquisite dance works from across the country this spring at the Mason Dance Company’s 2022 Gala Concert on March 25 and 26.
