She founded and directed the NEA Arts Journalism Institute, and she has served as Critic-in-Residence at the American Dance Festival and at the Joyce Theater.

J. has a BS in Wildlife & Fisheries Science and Forestry from the Pennsylvania State University (1996) and an MFA from the Hartford Art School (2012).
