Walking together: for them and for us brings together a group of 15 artists from Latin America whose work denounces violence against women and the perpetuation of hegemonic models where the subjugation of women has become the norm.

Carroll Sockwell (1943-1992) was a prominent figure in the Washington, DC art scene in the 1970’s. Often using the simplest of tools–pencil, charcoal, and pastel; Sockwell was an internationally acknowledged master of non-representational abstraction and belongs to the last generation of American Abstract Expressionists, with such influences as Paul Cezanne, Piet Mondrian, Paul Klee, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Joan Mitchell, and Cy Twombly.

Graphic Liberation is an exhibition and poster-making workshop which highlights the role of graphic design in international social change movements, including civil and gender rights, labor, AIDS, punk, hip-hop, and other movements.

Suspended Inter-Spaces is a group exhibition coordinated by Helen Frederick and Amelia Hankin in collaboration with the VisArts curatorial staff members Frank McCauley, Susan Main, and Megan Koeppel.

Mason School of Art graduate student Jax Ohashi is one of six graduate students in the state of Virginia to receive a 2022-23 Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) Visual Arts Fellowships.

The first time Katherine Ashby saw her artwork installed at Gunston Hall, the historic home of U.S. Founding Father George Mason IV, it was surreal. “I had never done something that felt that important or that had been installed physically,” the senior painting major from George Mason University said.

Studio Thinking 3 is a new edition of a now-classic text, a research-based account of teaching and learning in high school studio arts classes. It poses a framework that identifies eight habits of mind taught in visual arts and four studio structures by which they are taught.

Money Has No Smell is a group exhibition that presents works by three artists: Ignacio Gatica, Mariana Parisca, and Gabriella Torres-Ferrer. Curated by ACOMPI (Jack Radley and Constanza Valenzuela) and mentored by Rosario Güiraldes, the exhibition brings together recent works that trace flows of currency to and from the artists’ places of origin, in the process addressing the complexity of globalized and interdependent financial systems.
